Saw this quote yesterday: “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.” Well, I just love that. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Pittsburgh wedding?

My niece, Katie, sent me this photo last night. Apparently someone with the last name Kimutis was having a Pittsburgh themed wedding. She saw this on a show on the network TLC. We don’t know anyone else in Pittsburgh with the last name Kimutis. John is from St. Louis. My sister had a custom “Kimutis” Steeler [...]

A dream about Joe.

I had two wonderful and very vivid dreams about my son, Joe, last night. I will share one of them with you. Joe and I were walking on a sidewalk in a busy city. It was late summer and the sun was just beginning to set behind the large buildings. Just like all dreams that I [...]

Staycation day.

Johnny took a vacation day yesterday. We left the house early and went to the Strip District. Their sign said, “Best breakfast in town” so we went to Deluca’s Restaurant. To say it was hot and humid yesterday would be an understatement. It was definitely a pool day. We didn’t swim. Game time was at [...]

Fired up.

Before the kids on the street go back to school, they get fired up. Painting ceramics at a local shop, “Fired Up” has been a tradition for a lot of years. It is a nice way to wrap up the summer and spend time with my young friends. I picked up the finished products and [...]

My two brightest lights.

I turned on the television this morning. I continued watching the Emmy Awards from last night. Minutes into it was the Memoriam. At the end was a still photo of Robin Williams. Of all the photos of him, they chose one that reflected his soul not his sense of humor. Standing on the stage was his [...]

Around Pittsburgh.

Saturday was a beautiful day here in the ‘burgh. It was a great day to get out and see our city. Our first stop was the Shadyside Arts Festival. Booth after booth, so many cool and creative things! From there we scooted over to Bloomfield for Italian Days. Again, booth after booth, but this time [...]

A beautiful day.

It is already 81 degrees. There is not a cloud in the sky. John is going to take his kayak out on a lake and I am going to enjoy the day in my bucket. Summer is nearly a memory. It is a beautiful day. Get outside and enjoy it. Have a lovely Sunday.

Who they really are.

I am proud to say that from the beginning of our children’s lives we talked to them about having compassion for others. We talked about why people become homeless. We told them that sometimes, they are angels, placed before us to see if we will help a stranger without judging them. How do you react when you [...]

Joe’s flowers.

Just after Joe’s passing, a girl who was his friend, sent us a potted hydrangea. We planted it outside near the side of our house. I love the purple flower, and yesterday clipped a few to bring in the house. Kahlil Gibran once said, “Oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul [...]
