Joe Kimutis fund donates to food banks. Thank you for helping us!

Today, the Joseph Kimutis Memorial fund will be donating $500 to The St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and $500 to the Bridgeville Area Food bank. Food is something so many of us take for granted. We shouldn’t. There are many hungry people living among us. I am glad we are able to help to fill the shelves of these two donation centers.

I can’t believe that the Seventh Annual Joe Kimutis Spaghetti dinner is in six weeks! That dinner is such a special day for John, Sadie and me. It is hard for me to even find the words for the emotions I have that day. Last year more than 300 people came together to support us. That is the one day that we raise the money that we are able to give away the following year. We have given scholarships, fed the hungry and homeless and assisted in many other areas of need in Pittsburgh. Joe would love that. We love that. We could not do it without you. For that, we are very grateful!

Every year I worry about getting enough auction items. I worry that people will be too busy to come out that day. Worry, worry, worry. I’m really trying to not do that this year. I know that I shouldn’t. I know that people always step forward and donate. I know that the kindness of the people in our lives brings tears of joy to my eyes. People come and give. Honestly, it is amazing to me.

I still miss Joe every day. I think about him often. I no longer think about what he would be doing if he were here. That wasn’t meant to be. That doesn’t serve me well. What I do think about is what he might be doing now. I think about what he thinks about what we are doing in the wake that is the giant void. I want him to be proud of us. At the dinner I feel his presence so strongly. I think he would be overjoyed at how we are all remembering him.

So, as I have the checks sent to the food banks today I want you all to know how much I value you. How much I appreciate all the love and kindness you have shown to me and my family over the last six years. How you never hesitate to donate auction items, your time and your generous monetary donations. You all keep the memory of my son alive through your kindness, and as Joe’s mama, I will be forever grateful to you.
