Milton’s Secret.

We watched the movie Milton’s Secret. I recommend it. I didn’t really know anything about it as it began, but I saw that it was based on a book by Eckhart Tolle. I knew it would be good and have a message. He is the author of The Power of Now and I love that book.

It is a story about family and the uncertain times families live in. Milton is a 12 year-old boy growing up in an economically and socially unpredictable world. His mother and father are workaholics with marital and financial problems, and he is bullied at school. When his grandfather visits, Milton learns rehashing the past and worrying about the future are preventing him from finding true happiness.

“We are all in a war. We argue with each other so much, hold grudges and say awful things behind each other’s backs. It is a big big war. We are all walking around wounded. I got wounded and it hurts. I was so upset, so worried about getting wounded again I couldn’t do anything else. There was a civil war raging inside of me. Then, my grandpa came to visit and he taught me how to stop the war. Imagine that you are a beaker. Whatever you choose to put inside of it, that is who you are. You fill your glass with hate and fear, pour in your worries about the past and the future, you are probably going to be miserable. If you fill your beaker with love and caring, miracles can happen. Wars can end. People can be different. That’s the secret. We all can change. You just have to take the empty space and turn it into gold. And, when you do that, the war is over. My grandpa calls it alchemy which means my best friend, my parents, even my neighbors, we are all alchemists.” Milton.

Alchemy – A seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination.

If you are looking for a movie to watch, I recommend Milton’s Secret.
