The Caring Place

Last night I went to a dinner for the volunteers who work at The Caring Place.

The Caring Place is a center for grieving children, adolescents and their families. John, Sadie and I went to the Caring Place after Joe died.

John is now a volunteer at the Caring Place. I am proud of him for that. Last night he and I attended the dinner celebrating the 100 volunteers. While it was very nice, it did, at times, transport me back to those days when we attended.

There is a quote on the wall at the Caring Place

“It is only natural that we and our children find many things hard to talk about.

But, anything human is mentionable and anything mentionable can be manageable.

The mentioning can be difficult, and the managing too, but both can be done if we’re surrounded by love and trust.”

—Fred Rogers, Honoary Chairman of the Caring Place and the Caring Foundation from its inception in 1985 until his death in 2003.

It was a very nice evening.
